Termite Control

Termite infestation is the stuff of nightmares.   The damage that they can cause can devestate the structure of a building.   Termites cause millions of dollars of property damage throughout Melbourne and Victoria every year.   Often termite attack can go unnoticed.   If you think that you have termites, DO NOT disturb them.   Call Command Pest Control to carry out a thorough and comprehensive inspection of your property to determine areas of infestation.   At Command Pest Control we conduct termite inspections and treatments in accordance with the latest Australian Standards.

Commonly referred to as “White Ants”, the CSIRO says that termites attack and damage approximately one out of every five houses in Australia.   This unseen enemy eats away at the structural integrity of your home and causes millions of dollars damage every year in Australia.    Be proactive in preventing termite damage by periodically looking for signs of termite damage in your home and maintaining a reputable company’s termite protection plan that includes an annual termite inspection.  This helps to remove the worry of having to repair new termite damage. Command Pest Control provides the best termite pest control solutions for commercial and residential properties in accordance with the Australian Standards.    We understand the havoc termites can cause in your life and we can help you get rid of them.

Some common ways to identify termite infestation are:

Flying Termites – often the first sign of a termite infestation can be flying termites.  Commonly, during warm, humid evenings “alates” or “swarmers” can be seen.  They are young male and female reproductives leaving a nest to try to find a breeding partner, and start a new colony of their own.   Not long after their flight, the termites lose their wings and these can sometimes be seen scattered around a property on window frames, in spider webs, in light fittings or on floors.

Damaged and Soft Wood – termites usually feed on wood from the inside out, leaving just a thin layer of timber, paint, varnish or “blisters”.  Subterranean termites can cause subfloor damage, which can make your wood flooring appear as if it were damaged by water.   Below and behind surfaces like walls, floors, and more, wood damage can be identified. Termites chewing through the wood in search of cellulose can cause this, leaving behind long grooves. These grooves weaken the wood over time and create structural damage. Hollowed wood typically has an interior with a honeycomb and an empty tone.  Wherever the earth reaches your house or some other potential food source, such as a wood pile, tree or shed, mud tubes may be found. This is because subterranean termites move underground and work their way up to their source of food, which can often be a house structure. To live, these termites require certain levels of temperature and humidity.  Their tunnels help block cool, dry air, turning your home into an environment where they can flourish effectively.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?   Termites require 2 things to keep the colony alive, food (wood) and water (humidity).   To help reduce the risk of termite attack you should remove these 2 needs.   This can be done by ensuring that soil is not in contact with susceptible building timbers.  Avoid storing wood directly on soil, under, around or in contact with buildings.   Ensure subfloors are well ventilated and remain dry.   Improve drainage and fix any leaky plumbing to reduce soil moisture.
