Borer Control

Borers are insects that can be extremely damaging to wood.   This damage can sometimes be mistaken for termite damage.  Adult beetles inject their eggs into the wood, and as the eggs hatch, the larvae eat the wood from inside out as it grows.   Indications that you have a borer infestation include small pin holes in the timber which is caused when the adult exits the timber.  Also dust (frass) which comes out of the exit holes can accumulate and be seen.

In areas with high humidity, such as poorly ventilated subfloor areas, wood borer infestations are much more likely to occur.

BORER TREATMENTS

When borers have been identified, it is important to treat the timber correctly.   We treat all accessible sides of the timber so that when the adult beetle eat their way out of the timber, they contact the treatment which will kill them.   This breaks the breeding cycle and does not give them a chance to reproduce.   Due to their life cycle, it is recommended that 2 further follow-up treatments are conducted at 12 monthly intervals.
